AFC South Preview
Every year I think the Titans are better than they actually are. Offensively, they’re stacked. How do you stop Derrick Henry when you have to worry about AJ Brown and Julio Jones on the outside? You don’t. Tannehill is good enough to make this offense as good as any in the league with those weapons. The question is their defense, which is bizarre to me because I associate Vrabel with a hard-nosed, stingy defense. That hasn’t been the case. They’ll struggle putting pressure on QBs and getting stops, but in a division with two teams likely to be fighting for a top pick in April, they’ll win enough games to make the playoffs one way or the other. I think they win the division.
The Colts are such a confusing team. Their roster doesn’t scream “elite”, and yet they won 11 games last year. With a dominant offensive line, a stable of backs to run behind it, and a top tier defense, the Colts are certainly not flashy, but they should be effective. The question mark is obviously at QB. Is Carson Wentz healthy? Even if he is, is he any good? Time will tell. I think they’ll battle the Titans for the division, but will ultimately sneak into the postseason as a Wild Card team.
If the Jaguars had any talent on the offensive line, then I could see them having a decent season. But they don’t. A successful season for this team will be keeping Trevor Lawrence healthy. I like their offensive weapons, particularly at WR. And James Robinson was the darling of the 2020 season. But I don’t see much success happening with Lawrence running for his life. Another top 5–7 pick seems likely.
What a trainwreck the Texans are. A few seasons ago, this team looked awesome. Hopkins, Watt, Watson, etc. Now, it’s a complete disaster in Houston. They are the favorite to have the top pick for a reason. Sorry Texans fans.
