Monday Night Wild Card Lock
Cardinals @ Rams (-3.5), O/U 49.5
What a matchup we have here for the first ever Monday Night Football playoff game. These division rivals split the series this year, with each team winning on the road. The Cardinals were in control of this division all season long until they lost 4 of their final 5 games to limp into the playoffs as a Wild Card team. Still, their victory in Dallas a couple weeks ago showed that they’re certainly still a capable team. Kyler is still a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. Their defense is certainly a capable unit. The status of James Conner looms large in this one.
And then there’s the confusing Rams. This team has the star power. They have the flash. They went all in and got Matthew Stafford, Odell, Von Miller, etc. They’ve got arguably the most unguardable player in the league in Cooper Kupp. They’ve got one of the best defensive players to ever do it in Aaron Donald. And yet, they instill no confidence in me every time I watch them play. Their offensive line cannot protect Stafford. Their defensive line is Swiss Cheese. They simply look soft. Fortunately for them, if Conner doesn’t suit up tonight, the Cardinals aren’t exactly the most physical unit who would be able to take advantage of this, but that’s still up in the air.
I’m going Cardinals with the points here. I expect this game to be a thriller and to come down to the very end. And the spread is more than a field goal. I have to take the points with the road team.
